Uploader: BBC Children in Need and BBC User Privacy Notice
This privacy notice gives you information about how we process your personal information when you use this instance of Uploader. The Uploader is a BBC service and the BBC and BBC Children in Need are using it together to gather content for BBC Children in Need’s and BBC appeal shows and other material to support BBC Children in Need’s activities. This means that the BBC and BBC Children in Need are joint data controllers and will share personal data with each other and process it for the following purposes only, to:
- allow you to use the Uploader to submit your creations and storing your creation;
- review the creation to see if it meets our requirements; and
- turn it in to content (including editing it) that we can use in BBC Children in Need shows, in print and online publications about BBC Children in Need and in emails to BBC Children in Need supporters and BBC Children in Need’s fundraising activities; and
- contact you about your creation if we need to.
The ultimate aim is to use your creation to help raise awareness and raise funds for BBC Children in Need.
What we will collect and how we use it?
You will need to sign in to your BBC account to use Uploader. We’ll use information from your BBC account (such as name, email address, date of birth/age, gender and location) to make the Uploader personal to you and to control who can use Uploader (e.g. so we can check you are 18 or over). We may use your account information to send important messages to you about your creation. We’ll also have any information that you provide as part of your creation which may include personal data such as your image, moving image and voice. Please see our requirements for what you can and can’t include in your creation.
Lawful basis for processing your personal information
When you use this instance of uploader we have a “legitimate interest” to process your personal information to authenticate your BBC account, provide you with access to the Uploader and obtain and use your creation as described in this privacy notice. BBC Children in Need is the UK corporate charity of the BBC and is supported by the BBC in a number of ways. We work together to create content for BBC Children in Need appeal shows and other platform content and one great way is for you to send us your creations directly. Ultimately, this can help us raise awareness and raise funds for BBC Children in Need.
Retaining and storing your information
Your creation will be retained for 90 days and after that it will be deleted, however if we want to use it for content as set out in this privacy notice, we will keep it indefinitely.
Your information will all be stored in the UK or the EU meaning the UK’s data protections standards will be maintained.
Sharing your information
BBC and BBC Children in Need will share your information with each other, if we use your creation to make content as set out in this privacy notice it may be shared as follows:
- Other BBC Group Companies including BBC Studios Limited and BBC Studios Productions Limited – Your creation may be shared like this so they can take it further, create and broadcast a TV or digital film, radio programme or published article.
- National or local press- Our Press Officer may provide your creation to carefully selected national and local press. They would also like to contact such press for further interviews in the run up to appeals and to provide your contact details to allow carefully chosen press to contact you about your creation.
- BBC & BBC Children in Need website and social media, other websites and social media-Your creation may appear on the BBC Children in Need or BBC websites, online shop and social media to support the live televised appeal and in respect of the work that BBC Children in Need do all year round. We may also share your creation across other websites or social media as part of a marketing plan.
- BBC Children in Need Written Publicity / Promotional Material- Your creation may be used for BBC Children in Need’s Annual Report, Fundraising Pack, e-letters and other materials sent to fundraisers and corporate partners of the charity.
Your rights and more information
You have rights in respect of the personal information we hold about you.
If you wish to access, correct, update or request deletion of your personal information, you can do so at any time by emailing [email protected] and we will comply with your request where your rights have been exercised in accordance with applicable laws.
You can object to processing of your personal information, ask us to restrict processing of your personal information or request portability of your personal information. Again, you can exercise these rights by emailing [email protected] and we will comply with your request where your rights have been exercised in accordance with applicable laws.
If the BBC uses your creation in its output, please be aware that your creation may be across BBC platforms. If you wish to make a deletion request to the BBC, please contact [email protected]
If you have a concern about the way the BBC or BBC Children in Need has handled your personal information, you can raise your concern with the supervisory authority in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) https://ico.org.uk/.
Updating this privacy notice
We will revise the privacy notice if there are significant changes to how we use your personal information.
