Seth’s story
Seth is 13 and loves gaming! He is a fulltime wheelchair user with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Gaming gives him the chance to experience things that other people enjoy, to escape into a world of virtual reality where he can run around and have fun.
Thanks to BBC Children in Need’s funding, Seth attends Ty Hafan Hospice, where he meets with his palliative care play specialist in a gaming environment. Heather Roberts from Ty Hafan explains: “Gaming provides a level playing field for those who have barriers to typical methods of play. When they’re in the gaming environment, all of their physical needs are removed and it means it’s much more inclusive and accessible.”
Seth is also the first wheelchair user to become a member of the Welsh Youth Parliament, and has recently received an invitation from UBISOFT – the makers of Just Dance – to meet them in their Paris studio and advise them on how to make games more accessible.
