The Difference Your Secondary School’s Fundraising Makes
HELPING TO MAKE LIFE LIGHTER FOR CHILDREN
We believe that every child should have the chance to thrive and be the best they can be.
Your support helps us to be there for children in your local area, changing lives where the need is greatest.
HANNAH’S STORY
When I started secondary school, I was struggling due to worries about physical and mental illness in my family. I also had a diagnosis of Autism and a condition called Marfan Syndrome, both of which made me feel different from others.
I struggled to connect with others and felt very isolated. I found it hard to cope with the classroom environment and this also made me feel so anxious. My Mum found Mentor Link; a project funded by BBC Children in Need. I was put in touch with a mentor there called Lorraine. I didn’t want to open up to my parents, as I didn’t want to worry them, but Lorraine and I built up a strong relationship and she gave me a safe person to talk to away from my family.
Every week, I was able to talk and feel listened to. Lorraine understood me and gave me some great coping strategies.
Lorraine and Mentor Link has helped me to be my true self. I’m now at university – I’m confident, have friends and am looking forward to my future.
