Expectations
At BBC Children in Need, we believe that that every child and young person deserves the opportunity to thrive and be the best they can be.
We act where the need is greatest. Our ambition is to create positive and lasting change across the UK for the children and young people who need us most.
Together with the BBC and our partners, we aim to inspire the nation and unite communities to support us in our work.
Projects we fund help to prevent or overcome the effects of challenges in the lives of children and young people. Our grantees achieve this by either working directly with children or seeking to improve their social and physical environments.
If you are awarded a grant you can expect us to support you by:
- Providing a designated contact for your grant.
- Providing a summary of your Grant Award, including a budget breakdown, a summary of what the award is for, and details of what you need to do to release your grant payment, including our standard Terms and Conditions
- Support with measuring and reporting on your work.
- Guidelines to assist you in promoting your project locally and obtaining permission to use our logo and branding in your promotional activities.
- Offering opportunities to take part in our fundraising and promotional activities and to feature on our website and social media: this helps to show the public why their support is so important.
- Giving you the choice of opting out of any promotional activity as appropriate.
- Contacting you during the life of your grant and in some cases visiting your project.
- Giving you opportunities to share what you’ve learned with us and others.
- Being approachable and as supportive as we can, even if not everything in your project works as expected. We understand things don’t always work as planned, and we are interested in hearing about and learning from failures as well as successes.
As a grantee we expect you to:
- Familiarise yourself with BBC Children in Need and how, together, we improve children’s lives.
- Read and agree to the standard Terms and Conditions and any additional conditions as outlined in the Grant Award Documents.
- Return the Grant Acceptance Agreement so we can make your grant payments.
- Report on your grant annually and provide the best evidence possible of the difference your project is making in the lives of the children and young people you are working with – as well as evidence of expenditure if required.
- Keep us up to date with any changes which might affect our grant as outlined in the Terms and Conditions. Get in touch and let us know.
- Attend our training on measuring and reporting on the difference you make, if you are invited to do so
- Promote your grant in your local community and on social media to raise awareness of your project and the difference you are making to the lives of young people
- Use our logo and branding appropriately (see publicity section for more details)
- Send us great photos, stories, and videos to use on our website and social media to help show the public why their support is so important
- Keep learning about your work so that your ability to make a difference in the lives of children and young people keeps improving
- Uphold safeguarding standards: For more information, please refer to NSPCC’s Online Safety resources or Thinkuknow (an online education programme dedicated to protecting children and young people, run by CEOP, the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command).
