Apply for a grant
Our new funding programmes will begin launching in Autumn 2022.
At BBC Children in Need, children and young people are at the heart of what we do. After the events of the last few years, we have developed a new charitable ambition and grantmaking strategy. This strategy focusses on our principles of:
- Sharing power with children and young people
- Acting flexibly
- Using our voice to build awareness and empathy around issues
- Building partnerships to bring communities and investors together
As part of this, we have made some significant changes to our grantmaking model:
- We will continue to offer project based funding, similarly to how we have in the past.
- We will be offering funding for core (organisational) costs as a separate grants stream.
- In spring 2023, we will launch a funding stream for smaller, emerging organisations. This stream is aimed at organisations who may need greater support to access our funding.
Organisations will only be able to apply for one of these streams per year. Your organisation should choose which stream is most suitable to your work and we will provide more detailed information about them, over the coming months. We will also give more details about our funding priorities at a local and regional level.

Project Costs Funding Stream (October 2022)
Project Costs Funding Stream (October 2022)
Opening for applications in October 2022.
Project costs are restricted to the aims and delivery of a specific piece of work with children and young people. They will cover a defined set of activities, which are time limited. Examples might include project staff costs, trips and outings, volunteer expenses and/or moveable equipment.
Core (Organisational) Costs Funding Stream (October 2022)
Core (Organisational) Costs Funding Stream (October 2022)
Opening for applications in October 2022.
Core costs funding can be spent flexibly on a grant holder’s central running and operational costs. We will fund organisations which work with children and young people. This might include management and administration, general office costs, accountancy and audit, fundraising, and governance/compliance costs. The stream is for the expenses required to keep an organisation running.
Emerging Grants Funding Stream (Spring 2023)
Emerging Grants Funding Stream (Spring 2023)
The name of this stream is to be confirmed. It will open for applications in Spring 2023.
This funding stream aims to build and diversify the range of organisations and work which we fund. We will target newer organisations and groups that are underrepresented in our portfolio of grantees, whom we may not have funded before. This stream will support emerging organisations, ideas, projects and approaches for work with children and young people. This may be to work on an emerging issue, a new area of focus/audience, or a way of doing things differently. This funding stream will permit project, core costs or a combination of both. Further information will be available nearer the time about the themes and geographical areas that are a priority for our funding.
