Meet Jodie, CEO at BOSP
Looking after children with complex needs is expensive...BBC Children in Need fund these staff but also the accessible venue and the wonderful activities that make our sessions feel like the best parties ever

Your generosity helps us to fund life-changing work delivered by some of the most thoughtful, skilled and passionate people in projects across the UK. One of those people is Jodie, CEO of BOSP (Brighter Opportunities for Special People), a small independent charity based in South Essex.
For over 28 years the team at BOSP have been supporting children and young people facing disability or living with life-limiting conditions. Their work allows some of the most vulnerable and isolated children to attend activity sessions they may otherwise not be able to enjoy. Not only is it good fun for those involved, but it helps to build key social and communication skills and, in the process, well-being, confidence and self-esteem.
BOSP’s Whizzy Woodland Away Days project is one of these activity sessions, and is in part funded by your donations.
Jodie explains “We support children on a one to one basis with additional medical and behavioural specialist staff on hand, enabling the most vulnerable and isolated children to attend our groups. BBC Children in Need fund these staff but also the accessible venue and the wonderful activities that make our sessions feel like the best parties ever, from music therapy and theatre productions, to abseiling and water zorbing.”
For Jodie, it’s about seeing the difference these sessions make to the children and hearing the parent’s feedback – “it’s priceless!”.

Work like this wouldn’t be possible without your help.
